If you’re considering being a US citizen by naturalization and you would like to know how much it would cost to be a US citizen, or you are considering immigration firstly, getting your green card, and after five years, applying for a US citizen, this is a total of how much it would cost you.

The current naturalization fee for a U.S. citizenship application is about $ 725. That includes application processing which is $640 and biometrics services which costs $85. These fees are non-refundable, irrespective of if your application was approved or rejected by the government.

Not Everyone applying for a US citizenship must pay the full government fees as those applying through the military are exempt from some fees such as filing fees and biometric fees. Those applying and are over the age of 75 are exempted from the biometrics fee.  Every other application that does not fall into this category must pay both fees.

 

What are the Naturalization fee and how much would it cost under certain circumstances?

For a Typical applicant

  • under No special circumstances Would pay a total government fee of $725.
  • With fee reduction would pay $405
  • With fee waiver Would pay $0.

For applicants 75 and over

  • Under No special circumstances Would pay a total government fee of $640
  • With reduction would pay a total of $320
  • With fee waiver would pay a total of $0

Active-duty military or veteran

  • Under any circumstance would pay a total government fee of $0

 

Ways to pay

If you’re an applicant living in the US, and submitted Form N-400, application for naturalization online through myUSCIS, then you can pay your fees online. However, if you submitted you Form N-400 in a paper, you have the following options to pay from such as a personal check, money order or a cashier’s check Or a credit card using Form G-1450. It is called the Authorization for credit card transactions. (note, you can use only one form of payment)

If you’re an applicant living abroad and you want to pay using these methods, you must first contact the U.S. embassy or consulate for proper instructions on how to make payments.

You must also note that any form of payment method you use for yourself should be used for everyone applying with you and you should pay exact amounts to avoid getting a refund and restarting the process.
